Melco Holds First Cyprus Casino Job Fair

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced that it will hold its first career fair for people interested in working at the casino operator’s integrated resort in the Republic of Cyprus.

The first job fair is set to take place on March 16-17 in the city of Limassol, where the complex is currently under development. The event will take place from 9 am to 5 pm on each of the two aforementioned days at the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry Premises. People interested in the job opportunities offered will be able to meet members of Melco’s Human Resources department and apply for a number of positions.

The company’s first job fair for its Cypriot project will be held shortly after it opened the first 500 job positions for the hotel and casino resort that is slated to be completed and opened in 2021. Melco is currently seeking slot attendants, dealers, and cashiers, among others.

The successful applicants will be working at the company’s temporary casino in Limassol, while the main casino resort is under construction. The temporary facility is set to open doors this summer. Here it is also important to note that Melco’s gaming license from Cypriot authorities also includes the opening of four satellite casinos in Nicosia, Larnaca, Paphos and the Famagusta Free Zone.

Those employed at Melco’s temporary casino will later on be transferred to the full resort, Melco’s HR team has confirmed. The company has also previously pointed out that it will be looking to “hire on attitude, image, and potential” and to “train on skills”.

Cyprus’ First Casino

City of Dreams Mediterranean, Melco’s Cypriot resort, would feature the island nation’s first casino facility since casino gambling was legalized. Melco, together with its local partner Cyprus Phasouri (Zakaki) Limited, plans to invest €550-million in the ambitious project.

It is believed that the resort, once fully operational, would be able to attract an additional of 300,000 overseas tourists each year. Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho, son of Macau casino mogul Stanley Ho, has said during a recent presentation of the project, that growing tourism on the island would be their top priority.

Aside from Cyprus’ traditional visitor groups, mainly from Western Europe and Russia, the complex with its casino floor, food and beverage, retail, and entertainment facilities, and meeting space will look to attract wealthy high rollers from the Asia-Pacific region. The casino portion of the resort would feature 136 gaming tables and 1,200 slot machines.

According to a recent PwC analysis, Melco’s City of Dreams Mediterranean’s economic impact on the island nation would amount to €700 million per year by 2023, or after its first two years of operation.

The resort is expected to create 4,000 construction jobs every year until 2021, and 6,500 direct and indirect jobs once it is fully operational.
