Gianluca Bucchino Leads after WPTDeepStacks Brussels €1,200 Main Event Day 1A

The WPTDeepStacks Brussels €1,200 Main Event went under way on Thursday at Grand Casino Brussels Viage. Day 1A of the event attracted 105 entries. By the time all levels scheduled for the day were played, there were just 30 players left at the tables of the host venue.

They will all progress directly into Day 2 of the tournament, which will be played tomorrow. More people will be able to join the tournament’s field later today, when Days 1B and 1C are set to be played.

Day 1B is scheduled to kick off at 2 pm local time and will feature the traditional 40-minute blind structure and would allow 1 re-entry. If they fail to secure a seat into Day 2 during Day 1B, players will have one final, “fast chance” through Day 1C, which is slated for 10 pm local time.

The 30 hopefuls from Thursday will be led by Italy’s Gianluca Bucchino. The player secured a significant chip advantage over his fellow players, bagging 360,000 in chips last night. Bucchino did not have a particularly good start to Day 1A, though. At some point he was down to just 4,000 chips. However, he managed to double up through Paul Berende, then double up again through the same player to improve his situation at the table.

The player won several small pots to further boost his stack. Eventually, he eliminated Belgian poker star Davidi Kitai to bag the overnight chip lead. Patrik Prijot and Vincent Gabel were the other players to round out the podium with stacks of 200,000 and 196,400 in chips, respectively.

Kenny Hallaert Eyes First Cash on Domestic Soil

Advancing into Day 2, local poker celebrity Kenny Hallaert will seek his first cash and title in Belgium. The player currently boasts live tournament earnings of $3,982,127, but has never cashed in a tournament to have taken place in his homeland.

Hallaert is his country’s third most profitable player of all-time. The Belgian made it to the final table of the 2016 WSOP $10,000 Main Event. He took sixth place in the world’s most popular No-Limit Hold’em tournament that year to collect his career’s largest live cash of $1,464,258.

The player bagged and tagged 99,000 last night. He was content with his stack, telling WPT staff that his day was actually very short as he bought into the tournament during its eighth level. Hallaert is planning to have a nice day off today before getting back to the host venue for Day 2 on Saturday. The player will have a family launch and take it easy today, as he told WPT staff.

Former WPTDeepStacks champion Ioannis Angelou-Konstas, Gregory Janin, who finished 5th in the WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event last summer, and Belgian player Arne Coulier were also among the notables to make it to the end of Day 1A and secure nice chip stacks for the tournament’s second day of play.
