WSOP dealer wins the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Main Event after stellar Day 3 performance
The WSOP Circuit universe has a brand-new Main Event champion and her name is Heather Alcorn. The player bested a tough field of 389 entries in the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Main Event last night for her first gold ring and a first-place prize of $129,654.
Alcorn usually plays very few live tournaments throughout the year. However, it should be noted that she makes a living out of the game. She is a WSOP dealer and traveling the circuit as part of her job. Following her triumph last night, Alcorn told fellow WSOP Circuit staffers that she could not work the WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Southern Indiana stop for personal reasons.
Yet, she drove through town and decided to stop and say hi to her fellow dealers. She then jumped into one tournament and made it to the final table. She entered a second event and made another final table. That was the point when Alcorn decided that it might be a good idea to enter the Main Event.
As mentioned earlier, this year’s edition of the tournament attracted 389 entrants. It was played over four days, including two starting flights. Day 3, the Main Event’s final one, took place yesterday at the host casino. There were just eight players when cards were thrown in the air and the eventual champion was holding the second largest chip stack at that time.

Day 3 Highlights
However, the day did not start particularly well for Alcorn. She quickly dropped to just 13 big blinds after a clash with Michael Foley. The eventual winner said last night that she really felt that she would soon walk out after that unfortunate hand. However, she was not ready to leave the tournament.
And she was right not to give up as a few double-ups a couple of hands later improved her situation significantly and helped her navigate through the stacked final table. Alcorn even managed to take revenge on Foley as she became responsible for his elimination in fifth place.
The soon-to-be-champion at that point was deep into action and was building a solid stack that helped her all the way down to the heads-up match. Alcorn played against Kevin Iacofano from Cincinnati, Ohio. Iacofano maintained a pretty good stack himself over the course of the past few days.
The final two players dealt blows to each other throughout their two-handed match, but Alcorn never really lost hold of her advantage. On what turned out to be the final hand in play, Iacofano shoved for his final 1.1 million pre-flop and Alcorn called, putting her opponent at risk.
Iacofano tabled [5h][5s] to Alcorn’s [Ad][9c]. The board ran out [Kc][10d][7h][10s][7c] to lock the victory for Alcorn. As for Iacofano, he exited as the runner-up, good for $80,120. The player was vying for his second WSOP Circuit Main Event title. He won his first one earlier this year when he took down the WSOP Circuit Rio Las Vegas Main Event for a first-place prize of $259,463 and his first gold ring for the series.
