Two starting flights of the WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond Opening Event are now in the books; three more to go
The first two of the five starting flights of the WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond $400 buy-in Opening Event were played on Thursday and it should be said that it was certainly a busy day at the host casino. Last year’s edition of this same tournament drew a massive field of 2,349 entries and hopes are that that number will be crushed this year.
The tournament featured four starting flights in 2017, but organizers have decided to add one more flight for its 2018 edition. With that said, chances that the field from last year will be surpassed are extremely huge.
As mentioned earlier, there were two starting flights to be marked as complete by the end of the day. Flight A drew 425 entrants, with those generating $140,250 in prize money. The top 45 spots were attached to a cash of $634 as per the tournament’s structure. Of the 425 entries on Day 1A, there were only 30 players left by the time all levels scheduled for the day were completed.
That means that everyone from 31st to 45th place received $634 in prize money after dropping out from the race. The remaining 30 survivors will return for Day 2 action on Sunday at 11 am local time.
They will be led by David Larson. The player bagged and tagged 717,000 last night to top not only the Flight A chip counts chart but also the overall temporary leaderboard. Jeremy Lenz put the day’s second largest stack in his bag for 565,000 in chips. Andrew Rubingberg had a total of 462,000 at the end of the day.
Flight B Information
As many as 234 entrants registered into the event through Flight B. That brought the overall field from the two starting flights that took place on Thursday to 659. Flight B created a prize pool of $77,220. Combined with the prize money from Flight A, the overall prize pool now stands at $217,470. The tournament features a guaranteed prize pool of $777,777, which, as it can be seen, is yet to be beaten.
Only 21 hopefuls survived through Day 1B. This means that a total of 51 players will head into Day 2 from Days 1A and 1B. It is to be seen how many will join them from the remaining three flights of this thrilling tournament.
Matthew Eng emerged as the Flight B chip leader by the end of the night. The player put 440,000 in his bag to head with those into the final day of action on Sunday.
It was Texan player Jonathan Tamayo who claimed the title in the last year’s edition of the tournament. He collected $101,404 in prize money and his third gold ring from the series. The player has won one more gold ring after his triumph at Horseshoe Hammond.
