Jimmy Livramento Leads 9 Players into WPTDeepStacks Portugal Finale

The WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event is just a final table away from crowning its 2018 victor. An original field of 224 entries has been reduced to just nine players who will sit around the official final table today to determine the champion. Action kicks off at 2 pm local time at Casino Vilamoura in the popular Portuguese resort of the same name.

Day 2 of the tournament was played yesterday at the host venue. Action started off with 81 players from the three starting flights played over the previous day. Peter Giordano entered with a massive chip lead over the rest of the remaining hopefuls. The player retained his momentum from the previous day throughout Day 2. However, late into action he found himself locked in a dangerous confrontation with Cesario Gomes that cost him his spot at the final table and his shot at the title. Giordano was eliminated in 11th place last night.

It was Jimmy Livramento who ended Day 2 action as the chip leader. The player bagged and tagged 1.45 million into the final table and is 200,000 chips ahead of his nearest competitor. It was Gomes who scooped the second largest stack of the night, putting 1.25 million into his bag. Defending champion Francisco Lopes rounded out the chip counts podium last night with a stack of 1.025 million.

Lopes Headlines the Final Table

Lopes not only holds one of the top chip stacks into the final table, but also headlines that final stage of this year’s edition of the WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event. The player is looking to win a back-to-back title and he clearly has a good shot at it, given his momentum from the previous day of action. Last year, Lopes bested a field of 250 entries for a first-place prize of €57,060. It is yet to be seen whether he will be able to double his accomplishment.

The WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event at Casino Vilamoura attracted an overall field of 224 entries this year. The €1,100 buy-in tournament thus had its guaranteed prize pool of €200,000 crushed to eventually reach €217,280. The money was split into payouts for the top 28 finishers and the winner will walk out with €50,000 in first-place prize money, the tournament trophy, and a €2,500 worth package into the special season-ending WPTDeepStacks event.

As mentioned above, Day 3 action is set to begin at 2 pm local time at the host casino. The nine remaining finalists will play until there is just one person left at the table to be crowned the victor. Pier D’Ancona with 823,000, Henrique Couto with 592,000, Tiago Branco with 441,000, Andre Cuco with 404,000, Artur Coelho with 397,000, and Jorge Oliveira with 350,000 are the other six players that are set to return at the casino today and play that final stage of the tournament.
